Methods of anticorrosion, derusting, cleaning and repair of motorcycle parts

Anticorrosion method for iron fuel tank:

The inner wall of general iron motorcycle fuel tank is in contact with gasoline for years. Because gasoline contains certain trace moisture and some corrosive substances, it can produce electrochemical reaction with iron. Over time, the tank will slowly corrode and perforate. If a sheet of zinc (the outer shell of a normal dry battery) is placed in the tank, the electrochemical reaction that causes corrosion will not occur with iron but with zinc due to the chemical activity of zinc, thus effectively protecting the tank from corrosion.

Like the zinc plates nailed to iron locks and the magnesium rods in electric water heaters, the activity of zinc and magnesium is used to protect iron. When zinc is placed in the tank, rust is greatly reduced when cleaning the tank.

Electroplating parts derusting and deaging decals:

Electroplating parts (chrome-plated or galvanized), if due to wear and water erosion, will be different degrees of rust, serious rust, with the general method is difficult to remove, both affect the appearance and damage parts, the following introduces a non-corrosive coating and good effect of rust method.

Step 1: First, put ammonium acetate into equal amount of clear water, and then warm it to about 70cC after full dissolution.

The 2nd pace: dip in sufficient solution with soft cloth swab rusty place, till rust spot disappears; Then used for cloth wipe residual solution, electroplating pieces will be as bright as the first.

Step 3: Small parts can also be soaked in the solution for a while, after taking out and drying, can also achieve the same effect. Finally, wipe with a dry cloth and a little oil.

After the above treatment, electroplating parts can not only restore the original luster, but also remain unchanged for a long time. For the parts that cause rust due to the coating falling off, this method can also remove rust spots, but will not appear the unique luster of the plating surface, ammonium acetate is white powdery crystal, can be purchased in chemical stores.

Get rid of old decals

In motorcycle reconditioning, some body decals often become old and hairy, but you can hardly take them off. Here is a way, is the decals with blisters for 30 minutes or so, make it wet, and then draw with the rubber dipped in a little washing powder solution, rub on the decals, after a while, decals and some dirt was rubbed into a strip fell down. Then rinse the surface of the car with water.

Repair plastic threaded hole:

Plastic threaded holes are used in a wide range of motorcycle applications, such as scooter housing and some instrumentation, instrumentation installation. Many maintenance personnel will find that the plastic housing of the scooter after multiple disassembly, or when the tapping screw is too hard, plastic threaded hole sliding teeth phenomenon. If the self-tapping screw of the larger size is replaced, the plastic threaded hole will be expanded and cracked by the screw.

I would like to introduce a simple repair method: first fill the plastic threaded hole with AB glue, after the AB glue solidifies, make a small hole with a drill, then screw. Interested friends can try, very convenient.

Cleaning of oil drum seals and non-metallic parts:

Most motorcycle users fill their gasoline with plastic buckets, which are affordable and more convenient. But the lid of the barrel is often lax and the gasoline is volatile, causing both waste and insecurity. My solution to this problem is to cover the mouth of the barrel with a plastic bag before covering the lid, and then tighten the lid. In order to check whether the seal is good, you can squeeze the plastic drum by hand. If there is no sound of air leakage, the lid of the drum is sealed.

Non - metallic parts cleaning

In the maintenance of motorcycles, often encounter some non-metallic parts need to be cleaned. These parts cannot be cleaned with kerosene, diesel, gasoline or metal cleaning agents used to clean metal parts, otherwise they will deteriorate and fail. The cleaning method should be determined according to the material of the parts.

(1) Parts made of rubber shall be cleaned with alcohol.

(2) Parts made of foam plastics shall be cleaned with washing powder or soapy water.

(3) Leather parts should not be washed with any cleaning solution, wipe with cloth.

(4) Paper parts shall not be cleaned with water, and shall be brushed or cleaned in kerosene or diesel oil.

(5) Clutch friction plate, brake shoe friction plate can not be cleaned with kerosene, diesel oil, alkali solution, using gasoline scrub.
