Motorcycle engine components include: assembly, crankcase, cylinder, piston, ring, crankshaft, valve, camshaft, fuel tank, filter, fuel pump, oil pump, carburetor, electronic fuel injection, intake and exhaust, water tank fan, and others.
The important components of a motorcycle engine are:
1. Pistons: The common materials are cast iron and aluminum alloy. The aluminum alloy can be further classified into aluminum-copper alloy (Y alloy) and aluminum-silicon alloy (Lo-Ex alloy); the processing methods of the blanks can be divided into casting and forging.
2. Piston pin: Generally, high-quality carburized steels such as 20, 15CrA or 20Mn2 are used. In high-performance internal combustion engines, advanced alloy steels can also be adopted. The outer surface should undergo carburizing quenching or surface induction quenching. To enhance fatigue strength, cold extrusion forming method, double-sided carburizing, cyaniding or nitriding can be used.
3. Piston Rings: The commonly used materials are cast iron and steel; the surface treatment methods include chrome plating, tin plating, molybdenum plating and phosphating; the processing methods include single-cast molding, mold-based processing and hot fixation method.
4. Connecting Rod: Typically made of medium carbon steel or alloy steel.
5. Crankshaft: It can be divided into two major types: forged crankshaft and cast crankshaft. The commonly used materials for forged crankshafts are ordinary carbon steel (35, 40, 45, 50) and alloy steel (35Mn2, 40Cr, 45Mn2, 35CrMoA, 42CrMoA, 50CrMoA, 40CrNi, and 18Cr2Ni4WA), while the commonly used materials for cast crankshafts are ductile iron QT60-2, malleable iron KTZ70-2, alloy cast iron, and cast steel ZG35, etc.
6. Valve mechanism: Currently, the valve angle of most internal combustion engines is 45 degrees. The common material for intake valves is 40Cr, while exhaust valves use high-carbon martensitic steel (with a working temperature not exceeding 650 degrees, such as 4Cr9Si2, 4Cr10Si2Mo, etc.) and austenitic alloy steel (with a working temperature up to 870 degrees, such as 4Cr14Ni14W2Mo).
7. Engine body: It consists of the cylinder block and the crankcase. It is usually made of aluminum alloy and cast iron.
8. Cylinder head: It is usually manufactured by casting.
9. Cylinder head gasket: There are several types available - integral hard aluminum gasket, laminated steel sheet gasket, corrugated steel sheet gasket, copper sheet - asbestos gasket, steel sheet - asbestos gasket, and gaskets composed of woven steel wire or metal framework with asbestos. Generally, for small and medium power internal combustion engines, copper sheet - asbestos gaskets or steel sheet - asbestos gaskets are used.
