Sometimes car owners may feel, "Oh, why aren't my car lights as bright as before? Why is the battery always low on power and can't be fully charged? What's the reason for this?" In fact, apart from peripheral factors such as rectifiers, the health condition of the magneto itself is also an important aspect affecting its power generation capacity, such as demagnetization of the magnet, mismatch between the magnetic steel and the coil, etc. As a car owner, in fact, there are many ways for us to quickly and conveniently determine whether the working condition of a motorcycle's magnet motor is normal. Today, I'll introduce six methods first. Those who are interested can give them a try.
First, after removing the spark plugs, gently step on the start lever with your foot. When the engine is rotating, since it no longer requires compressed air, it will be relatively smooth. At this time, you should be able to feel the pulsating sensation of the magnet steel of the magnet motor gradually attracting the coil core. If the rotation is very smooth and effortless without any obstruction, it indicates that the magnetic force of the magnet motor has declined. The decline in magnetic force will lead to a decrease in power generation.
Second, when the machine is shut down, open the side cover of the magneto and bring a small screwdriver close to the upper part of the magnetic steel inside the flywheel. At this time, the screwdriver will be firmly attracted by the magnetic steel and requires force to be removed. The stronger the suction force, the better the performance of the magnetic steel and the greater the power generation. Conversely, if the suction force is poor, it is a sign of reduced magnetism, and the power generation will also decrease accordingly.
When the magnetism of the magnetic steel on the flywheel decreases to a certain extent, the number of magnetic field lines cut by the coil per unit time is insufficient, and the induced electromotive force will decrease. This is the direct cause of the decline in power generation. At this time, the magneto motor cannot output sufficient power, causing the battery to be discharged. At the same time, the trigger voltage will also drop, and the spark plug will be difficult to spark, making it difficult to start the motorcycle.
Fourth, for a regular motorcycle, when the headlight switch is turned on and the start lever is quickly pressed with the foot, the front headlights should show a slight brightness. If they do not light up, it indicates that the power generation capacity is limited. However, this trick is only suitable for AC headlights. Since DC headlights do not directly pass through the magneto coil, there is no difference whether you step on them or not.
Five. Connect an AC voltmeter to the output end of the magneto lighting coil. When the engine is running, the output voltage can be measured. If the load voltage when the headlights are on and the no-load voltage when the headlights are off differ too much, it indicates that the power generation capacity is insufficient and the no-load voltage is too weak.
Six. Teach you a way to assess the power generation of your car. When the engine is running at full speed and the headlights are at their brightest, connect a multimeter in parallel to the output end of the lighting coil to measure the highest voltage. Then, connect the multimeter in series to the circuit to measure the maximum output current. By multiplying the voltage by the current, you can obtain the maximum output power in watts (I*V = W) of the magneto motor. This is the maximum power of your magneto motor. Then, pair it with a rectifier voltage stabilizer of equivalent or slightly larger power. This will be the maximum power supply for your entire vehicle. The smaller of the coil power and the rectifier power is the maximum power supply for the entire vehicle.
