Release date:2024.05.29

From May 17 to 20, the 2024 Beijing International Motorcycle Exhibition will be held. At present, the scale of China's motorcycle market has increased steadily, the brand pattern is gradually clear, and the product structure is constantly optimized.

We will promote the development of high-end industrial chains

On the first day of the 2024 Beijing International Motorcycle Exhibition, Great Wall Motor released the world's first 8-cylinder motorcycle, the Great Wall Soul SOUO. Chairman Wei Jianjun said at the press conference that China should have its own high-end motorcycle brand, and the successful development of the 8-cylinder motorcycle shows that China is fully capable of creating a motorcycle that makes motorcycle friends proud.

Wei Jianjun said that although China has a lot of motorcycle industry chain, but high-end motorcycle industry chain is still small, and the overall level is low, to build brands, provide extreme quality and improve the user experience, gradually expand the market.

Bai Luyi, executive president of Ducati China, told China News Service that cycling and traveling in China is a collection of many wonderful experiences. Ducati will continue to strengthen the development direction of its own brand and bring more diversified products to motorcycle consumers.

Price competition remains fierce

Compared with last year, there are many manufacturers did not participate in this year's Beijing Motorcycle exhibition, including many domestic brands Spring breeze, Sekelon, etc., and some imported brands Harley, Indian, Yamaha, KTM and so on.

Industry insiders said that some big brand motorcycle companies choose not to participate in the exhibition may be related to the price competition of motorcycles in 2023.

In the domestic market, China's total motorcycle sales are slowing down. According to the China Motorcycle Chamber of Commerce, about 19 million motorcycles were sold in China in 2023, down 11.34 percent year-on-year. In 2023, China's domestic sales of fuel motorcycles were about 5.86 million (excluding imported cars), down 2.9%.

In an interview with China News Service during the Beijing Motor Show, Ma Xinhui, head of the Chinese Marketing Department of KTM and Husqvarna, said that although KTM did not participate in the Beijing Auto Show this year, KTM will continue to carry out more activities in the Chinese market; Compared to 2023, increased financial and human resources will be invested in branded track events and off-road events.

Efforts should be made to release domestic demand

At present, China's motorcycle industry import and export trade has a good performance, especially in the overseas market exports steadily improve.

According to the statistics of the China Motorcycle Chamber of Commerce, China exported a total of 8.32 million motorcycles in 2023, an increase of 8.8%. In the first quarter of 2024, China exported 2.29 million motorcycles, an increase of 36% year-on-year and a record high for the same period.

Li Daokui, director of the China Institute of Economic Thought and Practice at Tsinghua University, said in an interview with China News Service that the motorcycle industry is currently a "sunrise industry", but to further develop, it must find ways to release domestic demand. Although the output value of the motorcycle industry is not high, the current Chinese motorcycle market can pull the total social consumption of about 1 trillion yuan every year, so China's motorcycle market has great potential.

Li Daokui suggested that in order to promote the development of China's motorcycle industry, restrictions should be re-examined and adjusted to better release and meet the diversified needs of consumers. (over)
